Eric Resch, owner of Stone Creek Coffee, grew up in Green Bay and went to college in Madison.
"At the time, 1992," he says, "I was living in Chicago and wanted to come back to Wisconsin. Milwaukee was a big city with no coffee culture at the time... it seemed like the perfect city to start my company."
On December 10, 1993, Stone Creek Coffee Roasters sold its very first cup of coffee at a small cafe on Silver Spring Drive in Milwaukee, WI. The cafe opened at 6:30 a.m., and their first day's sales amounted to $231.82.
Since then, the company has grown to include cafes throughout the Milwaukee Metro area, including their beautiful Factory Store and Cafe downtown.
Eric Resch says he started Stone Creek for a few simple reasons:
"I wanted to start a company with a social mission, I love coffee and I wanted to walk my own path," he says. "We are fulfilling my commitment to run a socially-minded company, creating truly unique coffees with unique stories and finding ways to have fun along the way."
"We have fun dialing in new coffees on the sample roaster, we have fun sharing a bowl of chili on "Chili Thursday" and we even have fun starting whole new businesses like our recently-launched Stone Creek Kitchen. We love getting to know our customers and sharing our passion and hard work. I could not have picked a better path for my life. Hard at times, certainly, but few things are as fulfilling as building something beautiful and enduring."
Stone Creek was founded upon the idea that a company has a social obligation to support its community. And they've been doing so for almost 20 years by donating coffee, time and support to over 200 local non-profits.
In addition to roasting outstanding coffee, Stone Creek operates a state-of-the-art kitchen, which produces traditional and non-traditional foods to enjoy with coffee. This kitchen supplies their cafes with fresh bakery, jams, and other hand-made sundries.
